Out of the two recalls, Blue Buffalo reports receiving one report from the Food and Drug Administration of a dog that displayed these symptoms after eating beef dog food, and Wellness reports receiving three reports forwarded of from the FDA. The dog food was sold nationally at pet specialty and online retailers. Because the recipe is a mixer or topper and intended for intermittent or supplemental feeding only, the company says the likelihood of a dog being affected is remote. The Blue Wilderness Mountain Recipe Red Meat Dinner was the only product recalled after the investigation.

A popular dog food is being recalled because it could contain elevated levels of naturally-occurring beef thyroid hormones. Shoppers can check the dates on the bottom of the wet food cans. Owners are instructed to take their animal to a veterinarian immediately if those symptoms are seen. The recall was announced on Friday, March 17, 2017.
