So, what will we get in sacrificing the incredible "I'll Make A Man Out Of You" training musical montage? Their upcoming slate also features another beloved animated film, Mulan, but there will be a few differences in the approach.

In a separate interview with Screen Crush, the director said the film will be a "girly martial arts extravaganza". The Disney project's recently announced director Niki Caro and she revealed something that has fans scratching their heads. But the one adaptation that seems to be getting a lot more attention, the wrong kind, is Mulan.

Earlier in its development, the live-action Mulan was criticized for its rumored addition of a "white savior", but Disney has since stated that it will hire an all-Asian cast.

Niki confirmed what Sean Bailey, the president of Motion Picture Production at Walt Disney Studios, had hinted to Vulture about making the story more of an action movie than musical.

"It's a big, girly martial arts epic". And I can't wait.

Of course, Caro goes on to say that the film will be "extremely muscular and thrilling and entertaining and moving", so that's definitely a silver lining to this otherwise unfortunate news. His previous credits include "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" and "House of Flying Daggers". The studio was apparently so impressed with their work they put the film on the fast track to production. Bailey already hinted at a partnership. "Obviously the idea of working with collaborators in China is an interesting opportunity too", he said.

Filming has not yet begun, so this could all change after hearing the outcry from fans on social media. So far, Disney may have the upper hand as its remake of Mulan is slated for a release on November 2, 2018, while Sony is still in very early stages of developing the project, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
