West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic during the Premier League match at The London Stadium, London.

Ahead of West Ham's final game of the season against Burnley on Sunday, Bilic said: "Adrian is out of contract but we have an option, and we activated that option".

The Spanish goalkeeper's contract was due to expire at the end of the season, but the Hammers have exercised their option to extend his stay for a further two years, ending speculation linking him with Crystal Palace and Everton.

But full-back Alvaro Arbeloa, who signed a one-year deal after his release from Real Madrid last summer, is set to leave the club with his contract expiring.

"He can't play the last game of the season of course, but he played with the pain the last few games and then we made a decision to do the operation after the Liverpool game".

His recent form has also caught the eye at worldwide level, with the Nigerian team calling him up for their upcoming friendlies against Corsica and Togo.

"He's going to be out for 10 weeks but he'll be ready for the start of the new season", Bilic told reporters on Friday.

If the club want to improve in the 2017-18 campaign, then they need to attract a decent calibre of player, and while Ruddy is not a bad option, he is not going to take the team up a level.

"I can see him being a very good player". He has a hip problem and has not played the last few games. I think he's matured very well. He has a bright future in him and it's all down to him.
