Deadly tornadoes claim lives in Wisconsin, Oklahoma

Gov. Scott Walker on Wednesday will tour the storm devastation in northwestern Wisconsin where a tornado leveled a mobile home park, killing one person and injuring at least two dozen others.

In Moore, where seven children were killed when a deadly tornado struck their school in 2013, school officials said Thursday that they've canceled all evening events and are evaluating whether to call off after-school activities, too. No details of the fatality were given. Another 25 people were injured.

Helicopter video from WCCO-TV and KARE-TV shows extensive damage at the trailer park, with several homes reduced to rubble.

In western Oklahoma, a tornado ripped through Beckham County and killed one person. There's a whole row where there should be trailers but there's nothing but debris.

Across Highway SS from the trailer park, several turkey barns were destroyed, while others just lost chunks of their roofs. She said she opened the door to watch the rain and hail, and then she saw people's sheds flying overhead.

In Iowa, the storms damaged homes and other buildings and knocked down trees, limbs and power poles, leaving thousands of people without power.

"[Lots of houses] are missing roofs, [there's] severe damage to nearly all of them", Holland said.

There were 58 trailer lots in the park, and as many as eight trailers in a north lot escaped major damage, Fitzgerald said. Samuelson's daughters suffered minor injuries.

The tornado near Chetek was the only one reported to the National Weather Service from Tuesday night's storms.

An alert that went out just after 5 p.m. Tuesday warned that a severe thunderstorm with strong rotation was heading east across southern Barron County.

"A few trailers on the perimeter are still standing, but everything in the middle is completely gone", Chetek police officer Cody Stauner told the Leader-Telegram. "We have at least one deceased so far and we're still in a search pattern".

Fitzgerald said local and state officials are calling it a tornado, but that hasn't been confirmed by the National Weather Service, he said. Authorities said it appears he was fleeing his home when his vehicle was thrown several hundred feet.

Another tornado flattened much of a subdivision on the southern fringe of Elk City, Oklahoma, about 110 miles (180 kilometers) west of Oklahoma City.

The governor told reporters it was "nothing short of a miracle" that more people weren't hurt. Another 10 were reportedly injured and dozens of homes damaged or destroyed.

The twisters were among up to 29 that were reportedly spawned by powerful storms that raced through a swath of the central USA stretching from Texas to the Great Lakes on Tuesday evening, destroying dozens of homes, killing two people and injuring dozens of others.

A spokesman for the National Weather Service said Northwest Oklahoma could see more severe storms Thursday.

Devin Feuerhelm's sister, Lenna Samuelson, lives in the park with her two daughters, Ashley and Brenna.

He said the survivors are going to need help for some time to come.
