Former Fox News CEO Roger Ailes dead, network says

"I am profoundly sad and heartbroken to report that my husband, Roger Ailes, passed away this morning", she said in the statement.

"He wasn't flawless, but Roger Ailes was my friend & I loved him". Even Rev. Al Sharpton - who was in many ways the opposite of everything Ailes stood for - paid tribute to him and said, "his impact on USA culture is undeniable".

"Per 2nd family friend on cause of death: Ailes fell in Palm Beach and had a blood clot from the fall".

The cause of death and where Ailes died was not reported.

He was undone last summer by a lawsuit in which former anchor Gretchen Carlson alleged sexual harassment, an action that prompted other women, including Megyn Kelly, the network's biggest female star at the time, to come forward with similar stories. Ailes denied the allegations, saying the reason her contract was not renewed was due to "disappointingly low ratings".

Ailes has often been embroiled in sexual harassment claims. For Decades RA's has impacted American politics and media.

Roger Ailes, the former chairman of Fox News, died Thursday after complications from a serious fall last week, according to Florida officials.

On MSNBC Thursday, Joe Scarborough said that "Roger Ailes was fiercely loyal and would fight for you even if you didn't work for his company".

Sean Hannity also took to the microblogging site to mourn his old boss: "He has dramatically and forever changed the political and the media landscape singlehandedly for the better".

It's not just that Fox News and Ailes gave Trump a platform to spout his relentless birther conspiracy about Obama.

Some of Ailes' ideologies probably transferred to Nixon, and ultimately led to him resigning from office.

His wife Elizabeth announced his death in a short statement read out on Fox News by emotional news anchors. Nixon then put Ailes in charge of his television campaign for the 1968 presidential election.

Those on the left look at Ailes as a very controversial figure - someone who they believe has spread hate and bigotry across America.

In early 1996, he accepted a challenge from media titan Rupert Murdoch to build a news network from scratch to compete with CNN. He will be remembered by the many people on both sides of the camera he discovered, nurtured and promoted.
