Google's I/O Developer conference 2017 brought about the announcements of Google Assistant on iPhone, new Android O features and the launch of Android Go. Google is also rolling out the ability to make hands-free calls in the coming months only in the USA and Canada.

Despite releasing its voice-activated speaker almost two years after its rival the Amazon Echo, Google slowing bridging the gap with the announcement of a host of new features for its Home device. That means if you have a more limited internet package you can make it go further with Android Go and the light apps it highlights. Android Go is a configuration of Android O that's optimized for smartphones with just 512MB to 1GB of RAM and will activate automatically when installed on these devices. And that could help Google's effort to make Android more appealing than Apple 's iOS mobile operating system.

An example of an optimized app for Android Go is YouTube Go, which is able to preview videos first even before loading it, according to TechCrunch.
