"RIP Chris Cornell. Incredibly Talented".

The Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office has ruled the death of musician Chris Cornell as a suicide, saying he was hanged.

Soundgarden was one of the leading bands in the grunge music movement in the 1980s and '90s, releasing albums such as "Badmotorfinger" and the Grammy-winning "Superunknown", which brought the band mainstream success.

Cornell had been touring with Soundgarden, and was tweeting upbeat messages about a sold-out concert the band played in Detroit just hours before his death.

Cornell also released solo albums, and Nielsen Music said as a band member and solo act, the singer sold nearly 15 million albums and 8.8 million digital songs in the U.S.
