The result leaves Man City needing just one point from their final game away at Watford to seal their spot in the top four and the Champions League next season.

And he says he is proud to have played his part in City's huge transformation - particularly in the way they have been more successful than rivals Manchester United in recent years.

The two-time Premier League victor will end a celebrated nine-year association with the club at the end of the campaign and Guardiola added: "The crowd have stayed to say goodbye to a legend".

Aguero did not get on the scoresheet but was instrumental as City moved up to third in the Premier League while Zabaleta bade an emotional farewell to the Etihad Stadium.

"I had pressure when I became manager at Barcelona, when I had no reputation to defend myself with", Guardiola said on Monday.

Despite a strong start, City lost in the League Cup fourth round, FA Cup semifinals and Champions League last 16.

Kevin De Bruyne was the architect of that opening goal and within two minutes, the Belgian playmaker had put his side 2-0 up, via a superb first-time finish.

I know what it means to play for this football Club, and that's why the fans, thank you for your support, for being always behind the team and I hope you can enjoy in the future more trophies and good moments.

"If what happens next season is not going well, I'll have one more year of contract, and if it's not going well they are going to change manager".

"The fans had waited so long and we did it in a City way".

Having invested so much effort in recruiting Guardiola - they first approached him in 2012 before finally landing their man past year - City are unlikely to wield the axe soon.

"I don't think we've shot ourselves in the foot in respect of not trying", said manager Tony Pulis.

City will play Real Madrid in Los Angeles and tackle Tottenham Hotspur in Nashville. "That's the thing you have to accept and get on with it".
