Flynn, who failed to disclose that he spoke with Russian Federation regarding sanctions while Obama was still in office, is a key component in multiple investigations into the Trump campaign's relationship with one of the nation's greatest adversaries.

Without directly confirming the details of their conversation, Lavrov said he didn't understand what the "secret" was, since the U.S. introduced a ban on laptops on airlines from some Middle Eastern countries two months ago. And Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif) declared that Democrats can not be afraid to talk forcefully about impeachment, Rolling Stone reported.

"And he said that ever since, the President had been trying to be chummy in a fashion that Comey felt was created to absorb him into Trump's world - to make him part of the team".

Rosenstein received strong support from the Senate a month ago when he was confirmed by a vote of 94 to 6 to be the Justice Department's second-highest-ranking official.

Trump sent Comey a letter last week abruptly firing him. But his reputation has come under fierce attack in the past week over the memo he wrote about Comey.

He was referencing a letter by deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein strongly criticizing Comey's decision in the Clinton investigation.

Why Rosenstein felt compelled to write the memo remains unknown. Sen. White House officials cast Rosenstein as the prime person behind the decision to fire Comey, even though Trump had already chose to terminate the director.

"No", he said when he was asked about the report during a White House news conference on Thursday.

Absent from Trump's reasoning was the FBI's investigation of his campaign's contacts with Russian Federation - something Trump told NBC was on his mind when he made the decision - as a new, more independent Russian Federation investigation gets underway. Trump was not pleased with the news.

The meeting aimed to prevent Trump from further entrenching himself in the investigation, four people briefed on the meeting tell the newspaper. "Because you look at all of the people on the Democratic side, not only the Republican side, that were saying such bad things about Director Comey", Trump said. I actually thought when I made that decision, and I also got a very, very strong recommendation as you know from the deputy attorney general, Rod Rosenstein, when I made that decision I actually thought that it would be a bipartisan decision'.

Trump had earlier in the morning lashed out on Twitter at the news of the special prosecutor, calling the move a politically motivated "witch hunt" by his Democratic rivals.
