Winona County remembers fallen law enforcement

The service is taking part at 11025 Voyager Parkway in Colorado Springs.

Guests were served a barbecue dinner before going outside to hear the name of over 35 officers who lost their lives.

Seventh-grader Sam Hendrix will give the speech this year.

Willis also spoke about the collaboration between law enforcement agencies in the area.

The service has been going on for almost two decades and honors all law enforcement, whether they are alive and working or they died while serving the community.

May 15 is nationally recognized as Peace Officers Memorial Day, enacted through presidential proclamation 3537 by John F. Kennedy in 1962. Its an annual service observed by law enforcement from all over Acadiana to remember those who have fallen in the line of duty.

The U.S. House of Representatives will vote Thursday on a bill that makes it easier to seek the death penalty for those convicted of killing police officers. "Only they really know the feeling of what it's like to see you leave for duty, wondering if you will ever return".

Every year since 1982, members of the USA law enforcement community, their families and friends have gathered on Peace Officer's Memorial Day in Washington, D.C.to mourn the fallen and remember their heroic acts.

From 4-7 p.m. Friday, the Detroit Police Department's Badges of Honor will perform at the 11th Police Precinct.

"You are the thin blue line between civilisation and chaos", he told law enforcement officers gathered outside the US Capitol for the memorial service.

Glasser, of the Phoenix Police Department, and Reed, of the Show Low Police Department, were each killed by gunmen in 2016. "I am confident the six pieces of legislation that will be voted on this week will provide USA law enforcement with the federal resources and support they need to continue keeping us safe".

Speakers will include: city of Las Vegas Councilman Stavros Anthony, Commissioner Larry Brown, North Las Vegas Police Chief Alex Perez and LVMPD Sheriff Joseph Lombardo. One of those officers, former Port barre Police Chief David Richard.
