North Korea fires medium-range missile in latest weapon test

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said economic and diplomatic pressure would continue to be applied to North Korea.

North Korea fired a ballistic missile into waters off its east coast yesterday, South Korea and Japan said.

According to Reuters, the Security Council from the United Nations is due to meet on Tuesday in a private session to discuss the latest North Korea test missile.

"The flight range was 500 km and South Korea and the United States are closely analyzing additional information", South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said.

But a senior North Korean diplomat has said Pyongyang was open to having talks with Washington under the right conditions.

South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff says the rocket flew eastward about 500 kilometers (310 miles). It's also the second missile provocation since President Moon Jae-in was sworn in as South Korea's 19th president.

North Korea on Sunday launched another missile, its ninth this year, in its latest show of defiance to the worldwide community.
