Donald Trump was at Arlington National Cemetery on Monday to help honour the America's fallen soldiers on Memorial Day.

"We just want to say thank you to those that gave the ultimate gift", Mindy said.

The service was to remember those who sacrificed to keep the United States free.

Kelly led the U.S. Southern Command and lost his son, Robert Kelly, who stepped on a land mine while on a Marine patrol in Afghanistan in November 2010.

Trump added: "To the entire Kelly family, today, 300 million American hearts are joined together with you". Join us in a conversation about world events, the newsgathering process or whatever aspect of the news universe you find interesting or important.

David Horton summed it up by noting there are three days a year set aside for honoring members of the military.

They all share one title in common-and that is the title of "hero"-real heroes", Trump said".

Trump hails those fallen in battle and their families at Arlington
Trump said. "I believe that God has a special place in heaven for those who laid down their lives so that others may live free". It was a rare break from the controversy-filled days of Trump's presidency so far. "But we can remember them".

"Though they were here only a brief time before God called them home, their legacy will endure forever", Trump said. He recognized former Sen.

He related how hard it can be on a gold star family when well-intentioned people confuse Memorial Day with Veterans Day.

The president was accompanied to Arlington Cemetery by Vice President Mike Pence, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and Gen. Joseph Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, as well as a slew of advisers and Cabinet members, including Veterans' Affairs Secretary David Shulkin and Housing Secretary Ben Carson.

Of them and all who died in military service, he said: "Words can not measure the depth of their devotion, the purity of their love or the totality of their courage". This is people who come up, they get out of bed on a holiday, a national holiday, and they pay their respects.

Douglas Julin, who retired in 2012 after leading the Red Bulls, said Memorial Day is the most solemn of national holidays, especially as USA soldiers continue to serve in conflict zones.

"Today we also hold a special vigil for heroes whose stories we can not tell, because their names are known to God alone-the unknown soldiers", Trump said. It was a somber event as flowers were placed on a wreath for those who have fought and died for our country.
