China vows to uphold climate pact after United States pullout

China had said all along that regardless of what the United States chose to do, it would keep its commitment to the Paris accord, reports CBS News correspondent Ben Tracy.

Trump said his rationale for abandoning the global climate agreement was that he was elected to represent "Pittsburgh, not Paris".

"The US, as the second largest emitter of greenhouse gases, and more importantly, one of the world leaders, would have played a key role in creating the much needed global paradigm shift towards a more climate-resilient and climate-smart future", the Climate Change Commission (CCC) said in a statement.

He says the Paris emission reduction commitments were voluntary, which was something the New Zealand Government took advantage of by setting relatively weak targets.

Notably, Michael Bloomberg, the former mayor of New York City, is coordinating an effort among leaders, businesses and universities to formally submit a plan to the United Nations that pledges to meet the US targets drawn up in the agreement, the Times said.

"We both share the same responsibility: Make our planet great again", Macron said.

"Or in really entirely new transaction or terms that are fair to the United States, its businesses, its workers, its people and its tax payers".

Other pillars of corporate America - including Google's chief executive and - joined a growing chorus of disapproval and dismay over Trump's decision.
