Former White House press officer Boris Epshteyn has received a request for information from lawmakers as part of the Congressional investigation into Russia's interference into the 2016 presidential election, ABC News reported on Tuesday.

Other White House staffers who spoke with the Beast confirmed that Lewandowski "won't be in the White House proper", and will be more of a "shadow adviser".

"The best messenger is the President himself", Spicer said, while simultaneously insisting Trump was happy with how his team was operating.

There is, of course, a difference between an honest misreading of a picture or video, which seems to me what the BBC reporter did, and a broad-scale and knowing attempt to create news stories without facts, which is what Trump repeatedly alleges.

Trump made a similar claim in a tweet early Tuesday.

But some of the sources close to Spicer warned that scuttlebutt about impending shakeups has been a feature of Trump's tenure in the White House since the beginning, and yet little has actually shaken up.

Asked to comment on the reporting that White House adviser Jared Kushner had sought a secret backchannel by which to communicate with the Russians, Spicer offered only this: "I am not going to get into what the president did or didn't discuss".

It would mark a return to the campaign tactics that won Mr Trump the presidency - where every stumble or controversy was countered aggressively, political decorum and tradition be damned.

In the background, Mr Trump's advisers are reportedly beginning to establish a crisis-control communications operation to separate inquiries regarding the Russian Federation investigation and related scandals from issues connected to policy and legislation.

Of course, if Spicer really thinks that false tweets are fake news, then that would make his boss the world's most prolific publisher.
