MacOS High Sierra Brings Current Improvements, Future Developments

Apple is replacing its age-old file system with a better, more reliable and generally more efficient file system.

The next generation operating system also includes a feature referred to as Autoplay Blocking, which will automatically detect sites that are not expected to play video and block any such material automatically. A feature long asked for - Split View Mail Compose - finally sees the light of the day through macOS High Sierra. Of course, there are some notable drawbacks, mainly that APFS can not be used with Time Machine, Fusion drives or FileVault encryption, and the file system does not yet support compression.

In MacOS High Sierra, you can also expect some updates to the Photos app.

All Mac devices supporting Sierra OS will receive a free upgrade to macOS High Sierra. The next generation operating system will also promote searches in Spotlight as well.

Additionally, the new file system for storage that debuted previous year, the Apple File System (APFS), will now be the default on Macs moving forward. APFS offers some noteworthy speed improvements, which was demonstrated by a video of a lightning-fast copy process duplicating several HD video files.

Photos is rapidly becoming one of the most used apps on our Macs, and in High Sierra it looks we'll be spending even more time with it.

High Sierra be available as a public beta by the end of June. Go to the Apple Developer Download Center website and follow the instructions to download and install macOS Sierra beta onto your Mac. For instance, there's now a persistent sidebar, plus a new view of your photos in chronological order with a filter for key words, to pick out specific photographs.

Following in the spirit of Mountain Lion and El Capitan, this year's version of macOS is more of a maintenance release than a full-on new version.

Apple has taken the cover off its latest version of macOS, dubbed "High Sierra", bringing in a suite of features, notably better graphics features and Safari privacy protection. The improvements with new OS are spread across Safari browser, Mail, Photos, Graphics and more on the macOS High Sierra. The developer kits includes a Thunderbolt 3 enclosure, a AMD Radeon RX 580, and a USB-C hub. The Cupertino has also unveiled a new version of Metal, the company's graphics technology, and will be called as Metal 2. MacOS is getting support for SteamVR and major game engines like Unreal Engine 4 and Unity.
