The main accuser in Bill Cosby's trial gave emotional testimony in court Tuesday, delivering her first public remarks about the night he allegedly drugged and sexually assaulted her 13 years ago.

Gripping the elbow of his publicist, Andrew Wyatt, Cosby smiled at times as he walked into the Montgomery County Courthouse.

A former Temple University employee, Constand said Cosby had taken her under his wing and approached her as a mentor - only to later invite her over to his Cheltenham house, offer her drugs, and take advantage of her when she could not resist.

"Mr. Cosby asked me for my personal cell phone number and I gave it to him", Constand told prosecutor Kristen Gibbons-Feden.

Cosby was "somebody I trusted", Constand said. According to reports, Cosby watched Constand's testimony with his "head in his hands", shook his head, looked "glum", and "rolled his eyes". "When I felt that, I leaned forward and he took his hand away...'I said I'm not here for that, I don't want that'".

"I wanted it to stop", she continued.

Cosby says he gave Constand Benadryl to relieve stress, insisting their sexual relations were consensual and accusing her of lying.

On Monday, Cosby's defense attorney Brian McMonagle emphatically told the jury that Constand was "never incapacitated" during her encounters with the comedian, and that she had been "untruthful time and time and time again" with local law enforcement.

BENSHOFF: That night, she said she was going through something. Cosby has said in recent media interviews that he doesn't plan to testify on his own behalf, so Constand is the closest person to the alleged event to testify.

Mr Miller, who represented William Morris in the case, said Ms Johnson was tearful as she described waking up on a bed with her dress pulled down - details that matched the story Ms Johnson told on the stand.

Over 50 women have made accusations against Cosby, including drugging and taking advantage of them, though for many, the statute of limitations prohibits their cases from ever entering a courtroom. "Mr. Cosby stood up, and I stood up". Despite many of Cosby's alleged victims coming forward with their claims in the early 2000s, the news largely remained under the radar, and Cosby's reputation stayed relatively untarnished for almost a decade.

Johnson testified that Cosby pressured her to take a large white pill that knocked her out, and when she woke up he put lotion on her hand and forced her to touch his genitals.

Her appearance marked the first time since Cosby's arrest almost 18 months ago that he shared a room with the only woman among dozens of his accusers whose sexual misconduct allegations were not too old to be prosecuted. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison. She was feeling, quote, unquote, "torn" about telling her boss at the time that she planned to leave the university and go back to school to learn how to be a massage therapist. A former standout player herself, Constand at the time worked as operations manager for the Temple team.

After she was excused, prosecutors sought to call Johnson's mother to bolster her testimony. She told jurors that Johnson was distraught during a telephone call in 1996, fearing Cosby was trying to get her fired from her job working for the comedian's agent.

Mr Miller testified that no transcript was made of the deposition itself, an agreement he struck with Ms Johnson's lawyer because of the sensitivity of her claims.

The Associated Press does not typically identify people who say they are sexual assault victims unless they grant permission, which Constand and Johnson have done.
