Britain will vote in a national election on Thursday, just days after militants killed seven people and injured almost 50 in the heart of London on Saturday night, the third attack in Britain in less than three months.

Tom Elvidge, the general manger of Uber in London, told the Guardian that the company suspended surge pricing at around 10:50 p.m. - almost an hour after the attack started.

The Mayor of London Sadiq Khan led the vigil, which was held less than a mile from London Bridge and Borough Market - where the attack was carried out.

Khuram Shazad Butt, left, and Rachid Redouane are seen in a photo combination released by London's Metropolitan Police on June 5, 2017.

Armed police were quickly on the scene and three assailants were shot and killed within eight minutes of the first call to emergency services. Of the 58 others taken to hospitals, 21 remain in serious condition.

London's Metropolitan Police said Butt was previously known to police and the United Kingdom spy agency, MI5, and was a British citizen born in Pakistan. Police were trying to determine the third suspect's identity. "However, there was no intelligence to suggest that this attack was being planned and the investigation had been prioritized accordingly", British police said in a statement. At least 12 people were arrested Sunday, including five men and seven women ranging in age from 19 to 60.

Butt is believed to be the man seen in a British television documentary on jihadists within the country that aired past year. The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility.

London Metropolitan Police have identified two of the three attackers involved in Saturday's violent rampage on and around London Bridge, releasing photos of Khuram Shazad Butt and Rachid Redouane and asking the public for help in tracing their movements. The second, James McMullan, 32, was from the London suburb of Hackney.

She said the recent terror attacks in Britain, while not directly linked, "are bound together by the single evil ideology of Islamist extremism".

Authorities warned after the bombing that a further attack could be imminent, and police said their efforts to find out if the bomber had accomplices could be compromised.
