England seamer Jake Ball described it as "a great feeling" after an 87-run win against New Zealand ensured they became the first side to qualify for the semi-finals of the ICC Champions Trophy.

Earlier, Half-centuries from Alex Hales, Joe Root and Jos Buttler helped England to a respectable 310 all out in 49.3 overs against New Zealand in a Group A clash of the ongoing Champions Trophy at the Sophia Gardens here on Tuesday.

Captain Eoin Morgan has previously said Roy's spot is safe, but the worry is that another flop would see Bairstow thrown straight into the semi-final.

New Zealand have won 21 of 30 one-day internationals against Bangladesh but an under-strength side lost the most recent encounter, by five wickets in the final match of a tri-series in Dublin two weeks ago.

"They had a number of contributions which allowed them to get what I think was an above-par score", said Williamson. "So pretty average. So I thought the bowlers today as a collective unit were brilliant, really".

"All our batsmen thought it (the pitch) was two-paced, so we thought there was no value in bowling full".

"We won't think too much about it. but it is always nice to know that would be the outcome if we did win", Buttler said of the chance to end Australia's tournament.

The latter soon made up for his swift departure with an instant result in the opening over of the New Zealand innings. Luke Ronchi barely had time to take his stance as Ball knocked his stumps over on Ronchi's first delivery.

'We'll go into Saturday's game with a very serious attitude, ' he said.

Buttler, known for playing shots in a 360-degree arc, hasn't been in prime form this year, evidenced by the fact that he had composed just 145 runs in 10 matches before their fixture against New Zealand.

"It bounced a bit more than I expected and hit my glove".

"It's a bit frustrating, because we were getting a little bit of momentum with the bat".

"Both sides are very aggressive, attacking teams".

"A lot of credit goes to the way they bowled on that surface to extract what they did out of it". It's not about preventing runs anymore, it's about going out on the attack and making things happen.

It was announced after the match that Williamson has been fined 40 per cent of his match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate, with his players receiving 20 per cent fines.
