The well-disciplined Pakistan bowling unit produced a clinical display to restrict South Africa to 219-8 from their 50 overs.

Hasan Ali was the most successful bowler for Pakistan taking three for 24.

South Africa have a fearsome top-order, led by ever- dependable Hashim Amla, who has scored runs in all formats of the game.

"That's just the truth of it", added the fast bowler, whose impressive haul of three for 18 on Wednesday could no prevent Pakistan winning a rain-marred match on the Duckworth/Lewis method.

Pakistan had managed 119/3 in 27 overs before rain washed out play and forced a result under the Duckworth-Lewis method.

- However, South Africa have won both previous meetings with Pakistan in the Champions Trophy, including a 67-run win at Edgbaston in 2013.

The match at Edgbaston was abandoned two hours later, as the rain persisted, to hand Pakistan their first points of the tournament and leave them with a chance to go through to the semi-finals if they beat Sri Lanka in Cardiff on Monday in their last group game. "Had good intensity for 80% of the game, if we could get that to 100%, we'll be a good team". "[Pakistan fielding coach] Steve Rixon was very happy today, we didn't field well the other day, today we were much better". Faf du Plessis (26) and David Miller had to work hard to keep the scoreboard ticking but they could not build a big partnership as paceman Hasan Ali came out to ball and removed the former with the second ball of his spell.

South Africa, the top ranked one-day worldwide (ODI) team in the world, were expected to beat Pakistanwith ease, a team who are ranked eighth.

Scottish leader Sturgeon says election 'disastrous' for PM May
But the Tories took Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock from the SNP, with local councillor and former fireman Bill Grant winning the seat. Conservative Scottish Secretary David Mundell told BBC Scotland: "It's becoming increasingly clear the SNP bubble has burst".

De Villiers was gutted to have lost, and said: "They bowled pretty well, put us under pressure".

South Africa are likely to retain the same eleven that played Sri Lanka.

But it was the spin duo of Imad Wasim and Mohammad Hafeez who did the early damage. A brilliant delivery then sent Wayne Parnell's stumps flying, reducing the Proteas to 118-6.

Chris Morris (28) had a life when he was cleaned up by Junaid but the quick overstepped, while Kagiso Rabada (26) also offered some support for Miller.

Next up for Pakistan is the daunting challenge of a clash with South Africa - the world's top-ranked side in one-day internationals - at the same venue.

Mohammad Amir and Junaid Khan, in for the injured Wahab Riaz, formed an all left-arm new-ball attack.

The left-hander eventually fell for 33 when, deceived by Morkel's slower ball, he edged to Amla at slip. Pakistan have also won the last three of the five encounters between the two sides.
