Paul Ryan's takeaway from Comey's testimony: Trump is "just new at this"

Former FBI Director James Comey testifies at a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing on Russia's alleged interference in the 2016 US presidential election in Washington, D.C., on June 8.

Marc Kasowitz also slammed Comey for leaking a memo he had written detailing a conversation he had had with Trump to a law professor pal, a move that led to a New York Times story about the exchange.

"Of course, the Office of the President is entitled to expect loyalty from those who are serving the administration", Kasowitz said. Comey's sharing of said memos were purported to spark the appointment of a special counsel into the Russian Federation investigation. Trump's willingness to bend the truth concerned Comey at their first one-on-one meeting, at Trump Tower on January 6, in which Comey first informed Trump that the president-elect was not, at that time, under FBI investigation.

Comey said that his decision to tell Trump was not made lightly and discussed with Federal Bureau of Investigation leaders before his initial private conversation with Trump, which took place January 6.

Comey, though he acknowledged Trump was not personally a target of the inquiry, said he declined to say so publicly because he would be obligated to declare otherwise if the focus of the investigation shifted.

Blunt asked Comey why he used a friend to release information from a conversation with President Donald Trump.

Didn't even really talk to him: Putin on Flynn
Putin claimed that he never even went back and asked Kislyak about the details of the meeting, stating that he was not interested. Right now, I think we have representatives from a hundred American companies that have come to Russian Federation .

Comey's testimony demands soul-searching from Congress
Good Lord, release the tapes! I asked - the president tweeted on Friday after I got fired that I better hope there's not tapes. John McCain, one of the few Republicans who has publicly criticized Trump, was largely incoherent in his line of questioning.

Comey told senators about possible third Sessions-Russia meeting
Talk about meddling: Comey was especially unnerved in the February 14 meeting when Trump cleared the room to be alone with Comey . Trump cleared the Oval Office to make his request, including dismissing Comey's direct superior, Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

"I was sacked in some way to change, or the endeavor was to change, the way the Russian Federation investigation was being conducted", Comey testified under oath.

Just as top national security advisers for the White House told the Senate Intelligence Committee on Wednesday, Comey testified on Thursday that he was never explicitly told to drop the investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn. "I hope you can let this go", Comey alleged Trump told him.

Democrats on the Senate Intelligence Committee probably will press Comey for clear evidence of obstruction of justice that they conceivably could use to build an impeachment case against Trump.

"That concerned me because that language tracked how the campaign was talking about the FBI's work and that's concerning", Comey said.

Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California asked the question that many Republicans have raised in the weeks since Comey's firing as one media leak followed another revealing Comey's claims about Trump's inappropriate interactions with him.

Trump spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders disputed Comey's testimony when asked about it during an off-camera briefing at the White House, saying "I can definitely say the president's not a liar".
