Saudi Arabia and allies release Qatar 'terror list'

The global community has been striving to mediate the crisis among the countries concerned since the escalating tensions between Qatar and its fellow Arab nations culminated when Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Egypt, Libya and Yemen abruptly announced to sever diplomatic ties with the Gulf gas-rich state, accusing it of supporting terrorism and interfering with internal affairs.

Trump on Tuesday hailed the decision by the states to cut ties with Qatar as a sign his trip to Saudi Arabia paid off.

The agency noted a substantial rise in the nonresident deposits in the banks of Qatar, and a surge in their providing loans to the government for funding infrastructure projects.

Although Qatar hosts the largest American military airbase in the Middle East, Mr Trump threw his weight behind the Saudi-led effort to isolate the emirate in a surprise move on Tuesday.

The crisis was reportedly sparked by an interview with the Qatari leader that Qatar said was a false news story. A Qatari diplomat told the Associated Press on Thursday that his country's emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, won't travel overseas while the blockade remains in place.

Nabeel Rajab, one of the country's most high-profile activists, is now on trial for a series of tweets criticising a Saudi-led Arab military campaign in Yemen.

Gargash said he hoped further steps were not needed but could not be ruled out.

Qatar has said it is open to talks to end the crisis but has also accused its neighbours of impinging on its sovereignty.

Riyadh and its allies accuse Qatar of supporting extremist groups and of serving the interests of regional arch-rival Iran, claims Doha has strongly rejected.

"They said they would take a hard line on funding... extremism, and all reference was pointing to Qatar".
