Trump offers to help resolve Qatar crisis

The rating agency said Qatar's economy would suffer from the decision on Monday of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Bahrain to cut diplomatic and transport ties with Doha.

Koseoglu also said there were reports that legislation to deploy Turkish troops to Qatar, first agreed in May, could be fast-tracked through Turkey's parliament on Wednesday night. The Arab countries have blocked Qatari vessels from entering their airspace, as well as using their seaports, and Saudi Arabia has closed off its land border. Also, the Maldives and Libya's eastern-based government have cut ties with Qatar, while Libya's internationally-recognized government has not.

The travel curbs add to the woes of Qatar's flagship airline Qatar Airways which has now lost access to Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

In a telephone conversation with Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar, Trump reiterated that a united Gulf Cooperation Council and a strong United States-Gulf Cooperation Council partnership are critical to defeating terrorism and promoting regional stability, Xinhua reported.

"We're getting exhausted of reacting to unsubstantiated banalities", Andrei Krutskikh, a Kremlin advisor on cybersecurity, told the Interfax news agency.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran calls on all the neighbors involved in the current disputes in the southern Persian Gulf region to learn lessons from the past bitter experiences of the region show utmost restraint and move toward reducing tensions and returning to tranquility", said Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi, as quoted by NBC News.

French president Emmanuel Macron has also reached out to Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Iran in a bid to kick off negotiations. A top Emirati diplomat, meanwhile, said "there's nothing to negotiate" with Qatar.

Trump spoke by phone on Wednesday with the emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamin bin Hamad Al Thani.

Gargash said the four Arab states seek a "political commitment to change course" by Qatar, including ending its support for the Brotherhood and Hamas. Doha is the world's largest exporter of natural liquefied gas.

The Gulf countries have ordered their citizens out of Qatar and gave Qataris overseas 14 days to return home.

He says Qatar will need to close or limit its Al-Jazeera news network and stop funding extremists groups to end the crisis.

The ministry put out a statement on social media Wednesday saying those found guilty could face three to 15 years in prison and fines starting from 500,000 dirhams ($136,000). However, he did acknowledge the authenticity of recently leaked emails from Emirati Ambassador Yousef al-Otaiba in Washington, which several media outlets described as including criticism of Qatar.

Kuwait and Oman have also refused to sever ties with Qatar, for the time being.
