Game 3 was as competitive a game as we've seen from the two teams so far, but despite having home court advantage and a stellar performance from Kyrie Irving, the Cavaliers couldn't stop the Golden State Warriors from retaking the lead in the final minutes and setting up a potential four-game sweep.

Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving drives to the basket against Golden State Warriors guard Shaun Livingston during the second half in Game Four of the 2017 NBA Finals at Quicken Loans Arena.

Before the basketball game turned into a variety show with all sorts of extracurricular shenanigans after halftime, the Cavs played some of the best ball ever played in the championship round to thwart the Warriors' bid at a ideal 16-0 postseason.

CLEVELAND - Golden State's flawless postseason is over.

That's the question the Cavs asked themselves in the days leading up to Game 4 after falling behind 3-0 to the explosive Warriors while wilting away from long range.

Lebron James passed Magic Johnson with the most triple-doubles in NBA Finals history, posting his ninth Friday night.

"Lebron is a great player (and) we knew he was going to come up with something special tonight", said Ben Ng, who immediately bought tickets for Game 5.

"We were in attack mode", James said.

Golden State still leads the best-of-seven series 3-1 with game five set for Monday in Oakland, California.

Kevin Durant scored 35 points but the Warriors could never slow down the Cavs and missed their chance for the NBA's first flawless postseason.

They haven't come back from a 3-0 deficit - no team ever has.

What it means for the Finals is the series heads back to the Bay Area with the Warriors still well ahead with a 3-1 lead.

Kyrie, LeBron keep the Cavs alive with Game 4 win
The Warriors are still in control of this series, and no team has ever come back from a 3-0 deficit in the NBA Finals. Extracurriculars aside, the Cavs finally outmatched the Warriors on the offensive end with a historical performance.

Trump accuses ex-FBI chief Comey of lying about their private meetings
Comey's testimony underscored the discord that had soured their relationship. "Well, I didn't say that", Trump said. Trump also denied asking Comey for a pledge of loyalty during one of a string of private meetings.

Nadal improved to 99-2 in best-of-five-set matches on clay by overwhelming No. 17 Roberto Bautista Agut 6-1, 6-2, 6-2. Another Chinese Xu Yifan and Gabriela Dabrowski of Canada lost 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 to Raluca Olaru and Olga Savchuk.

Looking at the way things have moved in the first three matches, the Cavs have to come up with something extra special to beat Warriors, who are favourites to win 4-0 and take home the National Basketball Association title.

Cleveland fans chanted as they walked toward the exits.

"We haven't been making shots", Lue said. "Listen, you ain't got to go undefeated". The Warriors failed to crown a regular season in which they set a record with 73 wins. Irving said he had those plays on his mind for the last couple of days.

"The magnitude of the game, it hit me in a very deep place", Irving said. Stephen Curry was limited to 14 points on 4-of-13 shooting.

Kyrie Irving is up to 21 points for the Cavs, while LeBron James has 15 and J.R. Smith 14 already. When the Warriors received 31 points from Kevin Durant and 30 from Klay Thompson in Game 3, it was the first time a team had two players score 30 points in consecutive Finals games since Elgin Baylor and Jerry West did it with the Los Angeles Lakers in Games 6 and 7 of the 1962 Finals. The Warriors lead the series, 3-1.

In the third quarter, when it appeared that Draymond Green was given a second technical foul, Breen was incredulous: "That's the kind where you, as an official, you just look the other way". Everyone there thought Green had been assessed the first-half technical, not Kerr, she said.

Later in the third, a skirmish for a loose ball resulted in Iman Shumpert and Zaza Pachulia getting into it.

James added: "We have championship DNA as well". Golden State won the National Basketball Association title in 2015 in six games over the Cavs, and Cleveland won a year ago in seven games. The 86 points were the most in a half in NBA Finals history. The Warriors scored 33 points.

With their crowd hanging on every dribble, pass and shot, the Cavaliers came out flying.

Cleveland built an early 16-point lead and for the first extended time in the series, the defending champions looked and played like the superior team at both ends. The Cavs gave the Warriors their best shot, but Golden State still won 118-113. Kevin Love added 23 points. "We feel like that should be part of the game". And that was my barometer. Then, he went on to explain that it motivated him to play better.
