Trump broke his silence on Twitter following explosive testimony by Comey, declaring "total and complete vindication".

Testifying one month after Trump fired him, Comey said he lost his job because of the FBI's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 USA election.

On Friday, just more than 24 hours after former FBI Director James Comey testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee, President Donald Trump appeared outside the White House to address reporters.

Comey admitted in his sworn testimony that he had asked a friend to leak notes he kept detailing his meetings with Trump to a reporter.

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Conaway, a Texas Republican, and Representative Adam Schiff of California, the top-ranking Democrat, announced after the news conference they have asked the White House to produce any recordings or memoranda that might exist of Trump's conversations with Comey. The former Federal Bureau of Investigation chief was investigating whether the president or his campaign officials colluded with an alleged Kremlin plot to sway last year's United States presidential election in favour of Mr Trump. Mr Trump tweeted in his first comments since Mr Comey's hearing.

Trump also accused Comey of providing a false account of the "loyalty pledge" incident.

President Trump said Friday he would be willing to testify under oath about his interactions with former FBI Director James Comey, whom he fired in May.

Mr Comey also revealed that he had orchestrated the release of information about his private conversations with the president in an effort to further the investigation. "I'll tell you about it over a very short period of time", the president said".

The tweet from Trump about Comey claiming total vindication was a milestone for the president in one way: It ended Trump's second-longest tweet drought since he became a presidential candidate, falling just three minutes shy of the all-time mark.

"I didn't say that", Trump said at a joint press conference alongside the president of Romania.

"One hundred per cent", Mr Trump said.

Comey, who was sacked by Trump in May, did not make any major disclosures about any links between Trump or his associates and alleged Russian meddling.

Kasowitz also denied that Trump told Comey, "I need loyalty, I expect loyalty", as Comey claimed.

But Trump continued to tease whether there were recordings of his conversations with Comey.

Trump had previously indicated via Twitter there were tapes, to which Comey responded during his testimony, "Lordy, I hope there are tapes".
