One ticket sold in California matched all the winning numbers drawn on Saturday for the Powerball jackpot that soared to an estimated $448.7 million on a surge of last-minute buying, lottery officials said.

The winning ticket was sold at Marietta Liquor & Deli in the small city of Menifee, the California Lottery said in a statement.

That massive haul ranks among the largest jackpot in US history, and eclipsed a $435.3 million Powerball win in February that went to an anonymous victor in Indiana.

The winnig numbers, AP said, are 20-26-32-38-58, and the Powerball number is 3.

Earlier estimates had the jackpot at an estimated $435 million, after Wednesday's drawing failed to yield a victor for the top prize as no one had matched all the numbers since April 1.

"We will not know who California's latest Powerball victor is until at least Monday morning at 8 a.m".

Powerball is played in 44 states, Washington, DC, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Albeir Alberre, a 65-year-old immigrant originally from Syria, said the store has sold a few winners since he started the business in the late 1990s but never this big. That prize was split among three winnners. The other option of a lump-sum payout would reduce the cash prize to $279 million.

A Powerball ticket costs $2.

The store is at 27985 Bradley Road in the Sun City community in the city of Menifee. Both amounts do not figure in a deduction for taxes.

It was a switch that essentially traded lower odds for increased payouts, such as Saturday night's $448 million victor.

The odds of winning Saturday's drawing were only one in 292.2 million.

Alberre's father, who co-owns the store, suffers from pulmonary fibrosis.
