Microsoft migrates Windows Server to semi-annual release schedule

Windows Server Standard or Datacenter customers who are covered by Software Assurance will automatically have access to Semi-annual Channel releases as they are made available.

Microsoft is now recommending that for infrastructure related roles that you use Server Core. For those not familiar, Sever Core is the modernized version of Windows Server and is the correct choice for the data center instead of Windows Server 2016.
