The Washington Post previously reported that Trump also asked Rogers and Coats to push back against the FBI's investigation. On three occasions, Comey said he was not. The president has come under scrutiny for a February meeting with then-FBI Director James Comey, in which he asked the top cop to end an investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn. "I'm not talking about campaigns".

"This is not the way the justice system is supposed to work", Trump's attorney added. He added, "At this time, I have not been contacted by any law enforcement organisation in connection with the Russian Federation investigations".

Rosenstein's statement was released immediately after the Washington Post reported that the leader of the Russian Federation investigation, special council Robert Mueller, was investigating the business dealings of Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump's son-in-law and close advisor.

Trump has told associates he has the legal authority to fire Mueller.

News of Mueller looking into potential obstruction comes after former FBI Director James Comey testified last week.

Comey prepared multiple contemporaneous memos documenting conversations with Trump that made him uneasy in the weeks before his May 9 firing.

The letter to campaign officials was signed by Michael Glassner, the Trump campaign's executive director, and sent to former campaign officials in an envelope from the Jones Day law firm, which the campaign retained to field inquiries from investigators, according to a copy of the letter obtained by CNN.

But back to Pittsburgh, they're the first team to win back-to-back Stanley Cup's since Detroit did it in 1996-97 and 1997-98. Penguins captain Sidney Crosby was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player of the playoffs.

Donald Trump's Russia troubles just got much more serious
Ruddy was at the White House to meet with White House aides but did not speak with the president, spokesman Sean Spicer said. The NSA said in statement that it would "fully cooperate with the special counsel" and declined to comment further.

Dangerous heat wave to scorch the Southwestern US
If you have to be out in the heat, drink plenty of water - even before you are thirsty and take frequent cooling breaks. Valley highs are expected to be in the triple digits through at least the middle of next week.

The new allegations against Trump center on his own admission that he fired Comey because of the Russian Federation investigation, and suggestions he asked several top intelligence officials for their help altering the inquiry's direction.

But Mr Comey suggested he expected Mr Mueller would look into whether Mr Trump's efforts to intervene in the Federal Bureau of Investigation inquiry amounted to obstruction of justice. They are Paul Manafort, Trump's former campaign manager; Rick Gates, Manafort's business partner; Carter Page, a former foreign policy adviser; Flynn; and Roger J. Stone Jr, an informal adviser to Mr Trump. Trump - while not under oath, it's worth noting - has insisted flatly that he had never urged Comey to slow or stop the Flynn investigation.

Trump kept up his criticism of the investigations, writing on Twitter, "After 7 months of investigations & committee hearings about my 'collusion with the Russians, ' nobody has been able to show any proof. Nice", he tweeted Thursday morning.

The president also appeared to undermine Mueller's leadership, saying the "witch hunt" was being "led by some very bad and conflicted people!"

None of the above makes Trump guilty. "And so all of these are brought together under the special counsel, and that way he can decide how to deconflict between the different aspects of the investigations that are under way and basically decide how to deploy his resources". Mueller also has expansive powers to investigate any matters that develop from his initial investigation.

All of which makes Trump's efforts to belittle the investigation and move past it that much more hard.
