1 dead, 10 hurt in crash near mosque suspected as terrorism

The Interior MInister Amber Rudd said police "immediately" treated the incident as a suspected terrorist attack.

Earlier this month, a van veered into pedestrians on London Bridge, setting off vehicle and knife attacks that killed eight people and wounded many others on the bridge and in the nearby Borough Market area.

Prime Minister Theresa May said her thoughts were with those injured in "this awful incident".

"We don't yet know the full details, but this was clearly a deliberate attack on innocent Londoners, many of whom were finishing prayers during the holy month of Ramadan", he said.

Miqdaad Versi, assistant secretary general of the Muslim Council of Britain, said the van had deliberately swerved into a group of people who were helping a man who was ill and had fallen to the ground.

Eight people were taken to hospital, while two were treated at the scene. "There are a number of casualties being worked on at the scene".

Officers were called to the scene at 12:20 a.m. Monday near Finsbury Park Mosque as people were leaving a service.

A leader of the Muslim Council of Britain called for extra security at mosques in light of the apparent attack.

Jeremy Corbyn, whose constituency includes Finsbury Park, said he was "totally shocked" by the event, the Daily Mirror reports. "Our prayers are with the victims", it said.

"They were very nervous, shouting very loud, trying desperately to make some signs to a police vehicle that was. just passing the road", she told CNN.

Transportation officials said roads were being closed in the area.
