Donald Trump 'not being investigated'

On Friday, Trump himself tweeted that he was "being investigated for firing the Federal Bureau of Investigation director by the man who told me to fire the Federal Bureau of Investigation director". Although the White House initially said Rosenstein's memo led Trump to fire Comey, the president later said in a television interview that he did so because of the Russian Federation investigation. "The best thing that could happen for the president, and the country, is a full and credible investigation".

"The president is not and has not been under investigation for obstruction", attorney Jay Sekulow said on NBC's "Meet the Press". So which is it? But the president's attorney repeatedly and definitively declared that Trump is not, in fact, under investigation.

One of Donald Trump's lawyers insisted Sunday that the president was not under criminal investigation as part of the sweeping probe into Russia's alleged meddling in American elections, despite the United States leader's tweets angrily calling the whole saga a "distraction".

The source familiar with the Mueller probe told Reuters that Mueller was also examining whether Trump or others tried to interfere with the investigation.

Painter supported Hillary Clinton for president past year. But legal analysts say few criminal investigations begin with an identified target. That was one reason Hillary Clinton kept her email on a private server during her time as secretary of state.

Lawmakers from both parties are anxious that Russian meddling in US elections could continue, King said.

They said previous presidents would make sure to have the White House counsel's office and their personal lawyers carefully review any comments about such an investigation before making them. "I can not read the mind of the special prosecutor", he said. It hasn't wavered in its support for the president, and wouldn't do so in the event of a Mueller firing.

Angry Trump decries witch hunt against him
Rosenstein appointed Robert Mueller on May 17 as special counsel to head the inquiry into the Russian Federation matter. On CNN's "State of the Union" program, he said flatly, "The president is not a subject or target of an investigation".

Afghanistan To Host International Peace Conference
Since the worldwide military mission declared an end to its combat mission in 2014, the Taliban have made steady gains. Near the border with Iran, Herat is one of Afghanistan's largest cities.

Pakistan's path to Champions Trophy glory
India won the toss and chose to put Pakistan into bat - a decision that turned out to be a awful call. The victory ends India's hopes of becoming the first team to capture the title three times.

That would not solve his problems, of course.

Robert Mueller, the special counsel named by the Justice Department to probe the Russia matter, is investigating whether anyone associated with Trump or his campaign had any illegal dealings with Russian officials or others with ties to the Kremlin. Replacing the top two officials is the first step.

Yet Donald Trump is used to firing subordinates who don't get the results he wants.

Yet Trump's tweets in recent days condemning the actions of his own Justice Department have reached an intense level, revealing the president's increasing agitation about the probe and the attention it has drawn. Firing Comey was a grave mistake.

The Post reported last week that special counsel Robert Mueller III, who was appointed to oversee the investigation into Russia's role in the election previous year, is interviewing senior intelligence officials as part of a widening probe that now includes an examination of whether Mr Trump attempted to obstruct justice.

Challenged on "Fox News Sunday" about the issue, Sekulow said he could not be certain Trump was not under investigation but that no one had notified the legal team if that was the case. The president's partisan foes may be disappointed that no evidence of collusion between the 2016 Trump campaign and Moscow emerges. Before becoming a top Federal Bureau of Investigation official, James Comey made his name as USA attorney for the Southern District of NY by successfully prosecuting Martha Stewart for conspiracy and obstruction of justice, alongside securities fraud-charges that arose in part because of the way she talked to investigators about her business transactions.
