Donald Trump not under investigation for obstruction, says lawyer

In a heated interview with Fox News anchor Chris Wallace, Jay Sekulow, a member of President Donald Trump's personal legal team, repeatedly insisted that the president is not under investigation by the special counsel overseeing the federal Russian Federation probe, contradicting a Washington Post report and Trump's own tweet declaring that he is a subject of the inquiry.

"As he helped introduce Trump here Friday on a podium bearing the presidential seal, Rubio spoke in a volume and cadence reminiscent of the speeches he delivered as a candidate for president", the Post reported.

Sekulow, contended tweet by the President this week saying "I am being investigated", was not a confirmation of the investigation, but instead a response to a report in The Washington Post.

Rasmussen said Friday its daily presidential tracking poll that 50% of likely US voters approve of Trump's job performance, while the other 50% disapprove.

The contradictory messages came after Trump first answered - and seemingly confirmed - reports that he is personally under scrutiny for potential obstruction of justice, tweeting on Friday: "I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director! We've had no indication of that".

Sekulow says that Trump hasn't been notified of any investigation.

A member of President Donald Trump's outside legal team says the president is not under investigation, contradicting a recent tweet from Trump. "Witch Hunt", Trump tweeted, referring to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who in early May had written a memo for Trump recommending that former Federal Bureau of Investigation chief James Comey be fired.

Comey, who testified before Congress last week, indicated that he told Trump on multiple occasions, upon the president's insistence, that he was not under investigation during the Russian Federation probe.

Casting aspersions on the Justice Department and its inquiry, Trump on Friday seemed to confirm that he was under investigation for possible obstruction of justice by the special counsel looking into Russia's actions.

Trump Attorney: Trump Is Not Under Investigation
If Trump would seriously consider firing Sessions, it stands to reason that he would dispose of Comey. So that - nothing has changed in that regard since James Comey's testimony.

The red vehicle did have passengers inside, but the gunfire did not strike any of the passengers, CHP officials said. The CHP shut down all eastbound lanes of the bridge at 4:07 a.m. and issued a Sig Alert for severe traffic.

"Trump has a compulsion to counterattack and is very pugnacious". Sekulow said Trump "thought it was in the best interest of the American people" to fire Comey.

I have my doubts as to whether firing Mueller is the prudent move for Trump.

"There's a limitation on Twitter, as we all know", the lawyer, who is chief counsel to the Washington, D.C. -based American Center for Law & Justice, told CNN.

If Trump's answer is a signal that no such recordings exist, despite the intrigue created around the prospect of recorded conversations, Trump is unlikely to face legal or political consequences for dragging out the matter, GOP strategist Ford O'Connell said. Sekulow suggested that Trump had taken to Twitter because the president wanted to fight back against news organizations that Trump and his supporters have repeatedly accused of using leaks and anonymous sources to undermine the president.

Sekulow pointed to testimony Comey gave to the Senate Intelligence Committee, in which he declared that there was no investigation of Trump under way when he was sacked. This is a very complex matter, involving thousands of pages of intelligence documents, lots of witnesses.

On Sunday, Trump again called the investigation a "witch hunt".
