But again, the investigation is still ongoing, and the FBI is asking for tips from the public to find out more about the motive and people he may have met before the shooting took place.

James Hodgkinson began firing at Republicans during a baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia.

GOP lawmakers were practicing for the 56th annual Congressional Baseball Game for charity, which is still scheduled to occur Thursday night at Nationals Park. Five people were injured.

In his first public comments since the shooting, Dr. Jack Sava of MedStar Washington Hospital Center said it's a "good possibility" that Scalise will be able to return to work in his full capacity. He remains in critical condition from a shot to the hip.

Matt Mika, a former GOP staffer who is now government relations director for Tyson Foods, was shot in the chest and is still hospitalized.

Hodgkinson was killed by Capital Police. The gunman, identified by authorities as James Hodgkinson III of IL, died after a shootout with police. Before James Hodgkinson traveled to Virginia, he lived in the town of Belleville, Ill., near St. Louis. Hodgkinson was transferred to hospital and died of his injuries shortly after.

Until recently, Hodgkinson ran a home-inspection business out of his house in southern IL.

Authorities are still working to determine the motive for the attack, according to AP.

The FBI has already recovered two weapons: a 9 mm handgun and a 7.62 caliber rifle. Police say the guns were legal, and he carried the required Illinois Firearm Owner's Identification card. The Bureau is now seeking more information about the attacker.
