"I don't believe in moral victories, " said Harman, 30, a two-time victor on the PGA Tour who was playing in just his eighth major championship.

Coming into this round four with a crowded field at the top of the leaderboard, Koepka, like a thoroughbred in the final straight, made a decision to pull away, making three birdies in a row on the back nine to leave the rest of the competition behind.

Koepka finished the week on 16 under, equalling the lowest 72-hole total in the tournament's history set by Rory McIlroy in 2011, with Hideki Matsuyama firing a round-of-the-day 66 to grab a share of second spot.

On Sunday, the 27-year-old American broke free of a week-long logjam at the top of the leaderboard at Erin Hills with three consecutive birdies on the back nine to shoot a five-under 67 and claim his first major championship.

Those are two of the biggest names in the sport.

Here is a transcript, courtesy of ASAP Sports and the PGA Tour. After three all-American seasons at Florida State, the Florida-native made a decision to start his career in Europe instead of America. "Hopefully, though, in the future, in majors, I can play in the either last or next-to-last group to give myself a better chance". "Brooks dealt with it amazingly - he came and kicked everybody's (butt) over there, didn't he?"

It was just the third time a victor at the U.S. Open has been double-digits under par, and this week was the first time anyone other than the victor achieved the feat.

Although he wasn't in quite the same league as his playing partner during the final stretch, Fleetwood was keen to take the positives while still commending Koepka's achievement.

Koepka, is one of a handful of young golfers looking to take the torch from Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.

And that is something with which he's scuffled.

CHP Shooting Shuts Down Eastbound Bay Bridge
The red vehicle did have passengers inside, but the gunfire did not strike any of the passengers, CHP officials said. The CHP shut down all eastbound lanes of the bridge at 4:07 a.m. and issued a Sig Alert for severe traffic.

"It bites a little bit right now", Harman said afterwards. The three previous players to shoot 63 in an early round at a U.S. Open all struggled the next day.

The house shared by Rickie Fowler and Justin Thomas not far from Erin Hills was supposed to be the scene of someone's breaking out party Sunday night... instead it served as the scene of post mortems. "He's been very unnoticed and maybe not respected as much as he should have for his record". He's played so well in the majors and played great in the Ryder Cup. "Brooks is a good friend of ours and we're happy for him". "It was a long phone call for us, it was like two minutes it wasn't much. It will happen", Koepka said. Harman, the leader after the third round, only carded one birdie on the front and then fell out of contention with back-to-back bogeys on 12 and 13. He drilled it in.

Koepka pulled away on the back nine on Sunday, making three straight birdies from holes 14 to 16.

And he kept building on that.

The miscues put Koepka alone back on top of the leaderboard, a perch from which he would not be removed. Ball striking was pretty solid, it had to be today especially with the wind.

"[I was] just staying one shot at a time".

The 18th hole at Erin Hills has a special flag for the final round of the U.S. Open.

That is about as emotional as he gets. Thirty-one players finished under-par, a new tournament mark. His 9 under was the best-ever U.S. Open score in relation to par.

And for the week, there were 140 sub-par rounds recorded - with 122 coming in the first three rounds.
