Sekulow has publicly criticized Comey, whom Trump fired. Rep. Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House intelligence committee, said that the panel - overseeing one of several congressional investigations - is looking forward to getting a response from the White House on whether recordings exist.

The five people spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.

Sekulow's interviews Sunday were the first on-record pushbacks on readings of the tweet as an affirmation. The Washington Post or one of President Trump's attorneys?

Other news outlets, including the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times and CNN, have since had similar reports.

He said the "last thing we know is when he testified just a couple weeks back".

"A year and a half ago, a president, an American president, landed in Havana, to outstretch his hand to a regime", Rubio said Friday.

The conservative lawyer Sekulow, chief counsel for the American Center for Law and Justice, is assisting Trump as Mueller also probes into the potential obstruction of justice by the president in the firing of former FBI Director James Comey.

Schiff also said he believes recent congressional testimony from Comey and Attorney General Jeff Sessions points to signs of possible obstruction by Trump that warrant further investigation.

America's intelligence agencies concluded in a January report that Russian Federation took action to influence the election in favor of Trump. He added: "A lot of people have said, 'When do you think you'll be done?' Maybe the end of the year".

Sekulow blamed the confusion over Twitter's 140-character limit.

Schiff said Trump, his legal team and his supporters were trying to discredit the special counsel and his investigation.

One of President Donald Trump's lawyers on Sunday declared "there is not an investigation of the president of the United States".

"But you don't know that he's not under investigation, right?"

"I can not read the mind of the special prosecutor", he said. "We're agreed, then", Wallace said.

A USA official who is familiar with the rough outlines of the probe and who spoke on condition of anonymity told Reuters on Thursday that Mueller was also examining whether Trump or others tried to interfere with the investigation.

Constitutional scholars have debated the question for years, though the Department of Justice has said in formal opinions written under Presidents Bill Clinton and Richard Nixon that the constitution bars a sitting president from facing legal indictment.

Sekulow: "We've received no notice of investigation".

"Oh boy, this is weird", Wallace responded, noting, again, that Sekulow can not know there is no investigation.

Both Coats and Rogers declined before the Senate intelligence committee earlier this month to answer questions about their conversations with Trump, but both said they had never felt urged by Trump to intervene in the Russian Federation probes. "And the president [has] a very effective utilization of social media".
