You'll Never Believe What Michael Phelps Is Doing for Shark Week

Still, racing a shark is pretty cool and maybe one of those self preservation instincts will kick in and the human race will discover they can out-swim a deep sea predator. So now he's taking on a great white shark.

Michael Phelps may be the greatest swimmer of all time, but is he as great as a Great White shark?

In particular, according to the program presented on Discovery's official Facebook page, Phelps VS Shark will be presented on June 23rd. The release announcing this event didn't offer many details or specifics aside from saying that Phelps "has one competition left to win". "An event so monumental that no one has ever attempted it before".

Shark Week 2017 is set to scare up viewers this summer, and the Discovery Channel has Michael Phelps on board.

Compared to Phelps whose his size 14 feet, dubbed as human flippers, along with his larger-than-average sized hands that give him the privilege over his human competitors, the sharks have millions of years of evolutionary advantage... and gills.

Great white sharks cruise at about 5 miles per hour, but can reach speeds of 25mph. Phelps now holds the individual world record in the 100 m and 200 m butterfly.

In new ads for the Discovery Channel event, which begins on July 23, the Brit appears singing his Kiss From a Rose tune to fans on a pier.
