Novak Djokovic is also through to the last-eight in Paris after defeating Albert Ramos-Vinolas 7-6 (5) 6-1 6-3.

The 6-1 4-6 6-2 victory eased Wozniacki into the quarter-finals at Roland Garros, matching her best performance here in 2010.

He wasted three of them serving at 5-4 up, and three more when serving at 7-6.

After completing a career Grand Slam previous year, defeating Andy Murray in the final, Djokovic is now looking to become the first man in the Open Era and just the third man in history to win each of the four Grand Slam titles twice, behind Rod Laver and Roy Emerson.

Caroline Wozniacki said after her match on Sunday at the French Open that she is not anxious about competing at Wimbledon next month despite Saturday night's terrorist attacks in London. He had to get to seven games in each of the first two sets against fan favorite Gael Monfils but he moved on in straight sets. Thiem was caught off guard by Djokovic, while the Serbian played extremely well, one of the best matches of his entire year.

Muguruza was asked after the match about the cries of "forza" - Italian for "come on" - which Mladenovic had uttered after some of her opponent's errors.

No French woman has won the title since Mary Pierce in 2000. It will be the Serb's eighth consecutive appearance in the Round of 8 at Roland Gaross, joining Rafael and Roger Federer (11) atop the list of most quarter-finals in Paris. He was down two sets to one, and he faced a set point when trailing by a set.

Karen Khachanov will play Andy Murray in the fourth round after the giant Russian beat American 21st seed John Isner 7-6 (7/1), 6-3, 6-7 (5/7), 7-6 (7/3).

Isner was the last US man in the draw of 11 who entered the tournament.

Finally, Switzerland's Timea Bacsinszky defeated 2002 runner-up Venus Williams 5-7, 6-2, 6-1, while Danish 11th seed Caroline Wozniacki knocked out 2009 champion Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 to reach the last eight for just the second time.

World number 290 Petra Martic reached the last 16 with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Latvian 17th seed Anastasija Sevastova.

Pliskova, the Czech, beat Carina Witthoft of Germany 7-5 6-1, while Svitolina of Ukraine overcame Poland's Magda Linette 6-4 7-5.

On the other hand, Pliskova advanced to the fourth round with a victory over Witthoeft. "That is the only important thing for me", said Nadal, whose last grand slam success was the 2014 French Open.

The last repeat women's champion at Roland Garros remains Justine Henin, who won the tournament three consecutive years from 2005-07.

However, Ramos-Vinolas failed to take advantage after twice moving a break up in the opener and Djokovic was ultimately able to progress with a degree of comfort, winning 7-6 (7-5) 6-1 6-3.
