"SCO effort will give peace, stability in the region and it will fight against terrorism and extremism in any form", PM Modi said.

Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev in his inaugural speech during the 17th SCO summit welcomed Pakistan as full member of the organization. Advisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and Minister for Commerce Khurram Dastgir were also present at the meeting.

Issues related to cooperation in fight against worldwide terrorism, security and situation in the Middle East and Afghanistan were on the agenda the SCO summit.

The Indian government has said that two flights connecting Delhi and Astana will be launched soon.

In the presence of Pakistan Prime Minister & Chinese President Xi Jinping among others, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that in such a grouping sovereignty & territorial integrity are the key factors for better cooperation.

His remarks assume significance as they come weeks after India boycotted the high-profile Belt and Road Forum held in Beijing in which 29 world leaders took part. The news of their murders was made public ahead of the SCO summit held on June 8-9 in which India and Pakistan were admitted as members.

Modi hailed India's accession as a "landmark moment in the journey of the SCO" and pledged India would play a "constructive and active role" in the organisation.

India has been an observer of the SCO meeting since 2005.

The SCO is a political, military and economic alliance comprising Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, with India and Pakistan having been admitted to the bloc earlier in the day.

Speaking at the SCO Summit, Prime Minister Modi on Friday termed terrorism as the main encroacher of the human rights and values.

Modi and Xi are expected to meet at the G20 summit after Astana, which is set to be held next month in Hamburg, Germany followed by BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) summit to be held in Xiamen, China in September.

In his address, Modi said SCO could also devote attention towards climate change.
