"Transformers: The Last Knight" begins in the Dark Ages, as King Arthur and Lancelot are preparing to enter a brutal battle. Hopefully those films are fun and aren't like the previous ones directed by Michael Bay. There have been five of these now, so you know what that means.

It's easy to slam the "Transformers" movies for being - to varying degrees - extremely bloated and largely incoherent cinematic messes.

In the seemingly never-ending procession of summer blockbusters that are now part of a very big, expanded universe that is all the rage right now, it's the turn of the Robots in Disguise to join the party with the fifth installment in the wildly successful franchise based on the popular cartoon and toys from the 1980's. Not only that, but it seems there are hints in the Transformers: The Last Knight post-credits scene that there could be more films in the future! A spinoff with Hailee Steinfeld is due next year and "Transformers 7" is coming in 2019. Spoiler alert: The Autobot leader will, but only after he is seduced, in a way, on the Transformers home world, Cybertron, by a goddess, Quintessa (Gemma Chan), who wants to restore life to their world by destroying ours.

Written by Art Marcum; Matt Holloway, Ken Nolan and story by Akiva Goldsman; Starring Mark Wahlberg, Anthony Hopkins, Josh Duhamel, Laura Haddock, Peter Cullen, Frank Welker, John Goodman, Ken Watanabe, Jim Carter; Rated PG-13 for violence and intense sequences of sci-fi action, language, and some innuendo; Running time 149 minutes; In wide release June 21, 2017. "It's pretty remarkable, the strength and resilience that they show".

Stephen Curry got an uncontested driving layup. "And now that you can look ahead to Friday, all our focus is on that", Curry said. If this shot does help Golden State win the 2017 NBA Finals , this could very well end up as the signature moment of the series.

That's a lot of plot and a lot of movie for what's ostensibly a story about giant alien robots fighting other giant alien robots.

Bay has always been a champion of shock-and-awe spectacle over storytelling, a defibrillator jolting volts of pure, uncut action until somebody cries uncle. Forbes' Mark Hughes predicts that while it may not make as much as the last two films in the franchise, it will fare just fine overseas. Bay never misses an opportunity to load up his film with unnecessary junk as if simply padding the already excessive runtime somehow gives the movie an "epic" scope. Those movies aggressively bad.

Everyone in movie dumb. And, just like the rest, it tries to crowbar Transformers lore into human history and legends, nearly to the point where it seems like Earth belongs more to these big old cars with faces than to us. There's nothing that says because a film has bombastic action it must therefore drown in exposition and tiresome characters. "If you're not staggered by the technique on display here - the stuff that sets Bay's work miles above the Fast & Furiouses, X-Men: Apocalypses and Tom Cruise-chasing Mummies of this world - you're not paying attention".
