Trump says he didn't tape his conversations with Comey

Comey has claimed that any recordings would support his claims that Trump asked him to pledge loyalty and to drop the investigation into Trump's former national security adviser.

Trump has remained silent on the existence of the tapes until Thursday (June 22) when he issued another tweet suggesting that he doesn't know if such recordings exist, but if they do he didn't make them.

So, after getting fired by Trump, James Comey leaked Federal Bureau of Investigation property, thereby violating the law, in the hopes of getting a special prosecutor/counsel appointed. Comey said he made the move because he felt the FBI's investigation into Russian meddling in last year's election had reached a point at which a special counsel should be appointed.

Trump tweeted on Thursday, following aBloomberg story reporting that there were no such tapes, that he has "no idea whether there are "tapes" or recordings of [his] conversations with James Comey". Top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) gave Trump until Friday to turn the tapes over and if he won't, subpoenas could be coming his way.

If tapes of these meetings do exist, they could provide crucial evidence to the ongoing Senate, House, and Justice Department investigations into possible Trump campaign collusion with Russian Federation - and the reported investigation into obstruction Mr Trump's potential obstruction of justice. White House tapes revealed Nixon giving instructions to pressure the acting FBI director into halting the Watergate investigation. Comey declined, instead offering to be "honest". He didn't, and speculation has swirled around whether the tapes exist.

Pictures of the opening session of the talk also sparked criticism over the lack of diversity in the negotiating teams. He added: "The United Kingdom has made a decision to leave the European Union, it is not the other way around".

"As I said, I - the best thing that can happen for the president and for America is that we have a full-scale investigation that is credible, that it reaches its conclusion one way or the other, so that we can move on, and - but, at the same time, be knowledgeable".

During Comey's testimony last month to the Senate Intelligence Committee, he told senators "Lordy, I hope there are tapes".

Trump's personal lawyer, Marc Kasowitz, responded the same day; he partly denied many of Comey's statements, and finished with, "In sum, it is now established that the President was not being investigated for colluding with the or attempting to obstruct that investigation".

The president said June 9 at a news conference that he would tell people about the recordings "maybe sometime in the very near future". It is suffice to say that Trump has been playing the game in quite a witty manner with tact as well. "You're going to be very disappointed when you hear the answer", he later added. On Tuesday, White House spokesman Sean Spicer said that Trump "will make an announcement on this".

When Trump objected to this strangeness, a very normal response, Comey refused to correct the record, claiming that doing so would violate proper Justice Department procedure. He offered to help rebuild the World Trade Center in 2004 but never followed through.
