Chaos erupts after brawl at San Francisco mall

San Francisco's Westfield mall was placed on temporary lockdown Sunday after a fight broke out leading to a massive police response.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/2s8M25Z ) authorities say much of the downtown Westfield San Francisco Centre was closed Sunday evening after the fight.

Videos posted on social media showed a chaotic scene with arriving officers struggling to subdue several individuals.

Officer Robert Rueca told KRON4 that as cops attempted to detain brawlers and restore order, some bystanders physically assaulted them and hurled objects at them.

San Fransisco police received calls around 6:45 PM PST about fights at the mall, with dozens of officers responding.

Police arrested a juvenile, but details of the arrest were not available Monday. Rueca said a number of people have been detained.

While there is still no indication of what exactly caused the brawl or how many people were involved, police were able to confirm that one person was arrested.

A police officer was injured while trying to break up the melee.
