Beyonce wasn't able to make it to the 2017 BET Awards on Sunday (June 25) as she gave birth to her twins just a couple weeks ago, so she had her proteges Chloe & Halle accept her award on her behalf! Among the festivities and nominations also on the show were the tributes to New Edition and Chance The Rapper. "Whoa", screamed Jamie Foxx, who presented an award after Blige's performance.

He said he wanted to "tell everybody in this government that y'all need to let everybody out of jail for selling weed before y'all start making it legal", and then added, "I was going to tell the Chicago public school system to not take out a loan from Chase Bank when they know that our schools are planning on failing in our district".

Rapper Remy Ma redeemed herself when she beat Nicki Minaj for best female hip hop artist, ending Minaj's 7-year reign in that category.

An energetic Bruno Mars kicked off the show with a fun and funky performance of the song, "Perm".

A special Lifetime Achievement honour was bestowed upon New Edition's Bobby Brown, Michael Bivins, Ralph Tresvant, Ronnie DeVoe, Ricky Bell and Johnny Gill, who spoke of faith and weathering "highs and lows" during a career that dates back to the 1980s.

"I want joy in this house", declared host Leslie Jones earlier tonight at the BET Awards, in what was a call out certainly meet by Michelle Obama's cameo among a star studded show.

Beyoncé won the Viewers Choice Award for "Sorry".

Mars, Migos and Solange are nominated for video of the year along with Beyonce and Big Sean. Mars, who will open the show at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, is nominated for five awards.

"My arm pits are sweating so much right now", said Solange, who thanked BET for showing her "queens" like Aaliyah, Missy Elliott, Erykah Badu and others during her teenage years. El DeBarge and Kamasi Washignton performed "Careless Whisper" in honor George Michael, who died a year ago on Christmas Day, while Janelle Monae collaborator Roman GianArthur excitedly sang "Johnny B. Goode" in tribute to Chuck Berry, who died in March.
