White House Responds to Committee on 'Tapes' By Referring to Trump's Tweets

He was asked to address Thursday's revelation that he had, in fact, been full of shit (evergreen statement) when he intimated he had recorded conversations with former FBI director James Comey before firing him because of the ongoing Russian Federation investigation.

White House spokesperson, Sarah Sanders, refuted speculations from the press that Trump was playing "game" in order to make sure that Comey tell the truth.

A day after tweeting that he does not have taped conversations between himself and Comey, Trump addressed the scenario he helped raise in the first place.

"Well I just heard today for the first time that Obama knew about Russian Federation a long time before the election, and he did nothing about it", Trump said, according to excerpts from a Fox News interview to be broadcast on Sunday.

Mr Mueller's team is now reportedly investigating whether Mr Trump attempted to obstruct justice in his comments to Mr Comey about the FBI's investigation, and whether he furthered that attempted obstruction by firing the former FBI chief.

Trump's admission on Thursday that he never made or possessed any such recordings appeared to acknowledge that he purposely misled the public. "He's very, very good friends with Comey, which is very bothersome", Trump said.

Independents went for Comey over Trump, 47 to 17 percent.

Mr Comey also said that Mr Trump asked him for "loyalty" - which Mr Trump emphatically denies. But Trump's offer to testify under oath was risky, as it could result in the president perjuring himself. "He wanted everyone to be honest about this and he wanted to get to the bottom of it and I think he succeeded in doing that". "What would do that?" He is a good guy.

Northern Ireland party leader in talks with Conservatives
Members of May's own party are reportedly lined up to dump their leader if it looks like her government will lose the vote. The Prime Minister said the DUP and the Tories "share many values" and the agreement was "a very good one".

Trump: I didn't tape, but when he found out that there may be tapes out there, whether it's governmental tapes or anything else, and who knows, I think his story may have changed. Spicer noted that Comey "had been honest and told the president on three separate occasions that he wasn't under investigation".

"No. No. Next question", said Trump. Shortly after, The New York Times reported details of a private dinner between the two men.

Mark Warner of Virginia, top Democrat on the Senate intelligence committee, said the tweeting is an example of Trump's "willingness to just kind of make things up". So you never know what's out there, and I didn't tape and I don't have any tape and I didn't tape.

Mr Trump admitted earlier this week he had no recordings of their meetings.

"I hope she doesn't step down", he said.

The panel's Republican chairman, Rep Michael Conaway, who is leading the House committee's investigation, told reporters on Friday that Trump's tweet was not a sufficient response.

Minutes later, in an official release from his office, Schiff said the White House "must respond in writing" to the committee "as to whether any tapes or recordings exist".
