He may have made the briefest of cameo appearances in Arsenal's opening pre-season match against Sydney FC in Australia, yet Alexandre Lacazette showed within 15 minutes of his debut why Gunners boss Arsene Wenger chose to spend big on the 26-year-old striker.

Before the match, Sydney FC confirmed that their right-back Rhyan Grant will be sidelined for most of the new A-League season after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament.

Arsene Wenger began the game with Lacazette on the bench, but he did hand a first start to Sead Kolasinac as part of a three-man backline alongside Per Mertesacker and Krystian Bielik. "I'm focused on my pre-season".

"Arsenal will be playing a very good game because their pre-season is a lot shorter than ours so they don't have too much time to impress Arsene".

The French worldwide has been on Arsene Wenger's radar for some time, as "The Professor" admitted in Arsenal's first press conference on their summer tour of Australia.
