Venus Williams taking on Johanna Konta in Wimbledon semifinals

All these years later, Wimbledon still brings out the best in Venus Williams.

"Absolutely she's going to learn from it", said Austin, who twice reached the Wimbledon semi-finals. "She seems to have eliminated errors, she plays with more margin, which I think was a big key in this match and I think that's something that Jo will add to her repertoire, putting a little more safety margin on the balls".

"One more win would be wonderful". The 10th-seeded American has five singles titles at Wimbledon and six doubles championships.

Rybarikova was playing in a major semifinal for the first time. Serena is off the tour for the rest of this year because she is pregnant.

"Obviously it's very short after the match, and I'm a little bit disappointed. She showed a lot of courage, played in tough situations against players who were in form", Williams said. I was like, no, this time you do it for yourself. "She's top 10", Halep said after denying Victoria Azarenka a quarter-final berth in the former world No.1's return to grand slam tennis after becoming a mother last December.

If her semi-final against unseeded Slovakian Magdalena Rybarikova had been played on a school playground, the Spaniard would have been in detention for bullying. "It's going to be, like, a historic final again".

Williams arrived in England a few weeks after being involved in a two-car accident in Florida; not long afterward, a passenger in the other vehicle died. Earlier at the Wimbledon tournament, Williams left a news conference after growing emotional when discussing the incident. Williams, 37, beat hard-serving Johanna Konta, the world's No. 7 player, on Thursday.

In the second match on Centre Court, Williams was looking to reach her ninth final at the All England Club - and first since 2009. That opened a run in which Williams won 12 of 13 points.

Down two break points at 4-4, Williams produced a serve out wide, backhand victor combination. "Konta is so solid on the backhand but not quite as much on the forehand". I thought the crowd was so fair.

Garbine Muguruza

"To have her by my side gives me confidence because she knows what it takes to win here". "It's a lot of pressure". I certainly feel like I've been tested in that department. "I'm still pumped to get out there regardless of whether there's other British players in the tournament or not", he said.

Rybarikova was playing in the semifinals at a major tournament for the first time in her career.

In the other semifinal, Muguruza won 15 of the first 20 points en route to a 5-0 lead.

"Serena's always in my corner and usually it's her in these finals and I'm trying my best to represent Williams as best I can", Venus told the BBC after her 6-4 6-2 win.

"The best bit of the whole day", said Susan from Kent, "was seeing Virginia Wade".

"But I believe that I have a chance".

Muguruza won the point on 19 of 25 trips to the net and had a 22-8 edge in winners.

Muguruza got out the blocks in a hurry, winning the first five games of the initial set to put the 87th-ranked Slovak on her heels. She lost to Serena Williams with the title on the line at Wimbledon in 2015, then beat her at Roland Garros a year ago.
