Chicago Cubs Acquire Jose Quintana

Who fills the role of new team ace is now undecided, as David Holmberg is the only starter to have made multiple starts in 2017 and have an ERA south of four.

The Cubs trail Milwaukee by 5 1/2 games in the division at 43-45 after ending a 108-year championship drought last fall.

But the fresh start isn't just for Quintana, who recorded a 4-8 record with a 4.49 ERA for the White Sox this season.

Even if they fail to make the playoffs this season, the Cubs seem to be angling towards long term dominance.

Dylan Cease is the other big prize for the Sox, the No. 2 prospect in the Cubs' system and a right-handed hurler now also in A-ball. While King Felix had a good start against Oakland, I am not sure that means he is back to his old form.

The White Sox didn't budge on asking for a hefty package of players for Quintana, and they had their demands met by the reigning World Champions.

While the Cubs needed starting pitching, they did not want a rental.

The House of Representatives had also ordered Yusuf's reinstatement, a directive that is not binding on the health ministry. The ES inquired from the CMDs as to whether there were such projects being executed, they all confirmed to the contrary.

Epstein said Cubs people "dug really deep analytically and statistically" and came away confident Quintana was the same effective pitcher this year (despite the record) that has made him a sought-after commodity since the Sox made their intentions to rebuild known after last season.

After the White Sox and Cubs agreed to a blockbuster deal in which the Cubs acquired the secret-ace Jose Quintana for a haul of prospects - including Roy Hobbs-cosplayer Eloy Jimenez - Chicago is set to be more powerful than ever before.

Cease, 21, was 1-2 with a 2.79 ERA in 13 starts at low Single-A South Bend this season.

Bryant Flete is playing well at high A this year, but he has already been in the minors for almost six years. The White Sox have spent a better part of a year stockpiling prospects. Jimenez is only 20 and has a.271/.351/.490 slash line in High-A with six doubles, two triples and eight homers in 42 games. For the White Sox, this signals that the franchise is fully diving into its rebuilding phase. "A lot of it will depend on how we play". He hit.329 with 14 homers and 81 RBIs for Class A South Bend past year.

By trading for Quintana, they brought in an elite starter who is under club control through 2020.

In giving up Jimenez and Cease, the Cubs paid dearly, just as they did previous year when they sent prospect Gleyber Torres to the Yankees to get closer Aroldis Chapman. Adding on, Quintana has had an ERA of over 5 every month this year save for June (which includes July at a 5.59 ERA). The Sox get four prospects including Eloy Jimenez. And it's well past time to admit that Milwaukee is a legitimately good team - the Brewers have 50 wins, which is close to the 52 the NL East-leading Nationals have.
