Akhmetshin has been reported to have ties to Russian intelligence agencies, a characterization he dismisses as a "smear campaign".

Former FBI Director Robert Mueller - as a special counsel in the Justice Department's Russian Federation probe - is investigating allegations of collusion between Trump's campaign and Russian Federation in an effort to defeat Clinton in last fall's presidential election.

Another Russian lobbyist attended meeting with Donald Trump Jr. Within 20 minutes, Trump Jr. replied, "If it's what you say I love it especially later in the summer".

He said that he went to Trump Tower with the lawyer, Natalia Veselnitskaya, upon her request, but he didn't know any details. The same day, the Times' Ken Vogel reported that a translator named Anatoli Samochornov was also at the meeting. He said he showed up in jeans and a T-shirt.

But Ms Veselnitskaya was described by a USA businessman who will give testimony to a Senate committee against her as a "well-resourced player".

Trump Jr. has maintained that the Veselnitskaya had no good information about Hillary Clinton, as he was promised beforehand.
