CCTV said the exercise was conducted by a brigade, which was part of the Tibet Military Command of the People's Liberation Army (PLA).

Though the media picked it up on Monday, the PTI has said that the state-run China Central Television (CCTV) was the first to report it.

According to the report by CCTV, the brigade has always been stationed around the middle and lower reaches of the Brahmaputra (Yarlung Zangbo in Chinese) River which flows into India and Bangladesh and is responsible for frontline combat missions.

"It has been noticed that Indian Foreign Secretary Subrahmanyam Jaishankar recently has made positive remarks in Singapore, saying that "India and China should not let differences become disputes", it said. The military exercise was conducted in the vicinity of Yarlung Zangbo river, which flows into Arunachal as Sang, and turns into Brahmaputra in Assam and West Bengal.

"India should not regard the existing situation as the same as or even similar to the previous two stand-offs in 2013 and 2014 near Ladakh, a disputed area between China, Pakistan and India in southeastern Kashmir". Beijing is reportedly mulling the idea of building multiple dams at Yarlung Zangbo, which may hinder the flow of water towards India.
