D'onta Foreman, Texans' third round pick, arrested in Austin

Houston Texans rookie running back D'Onta Foreman was arrested early Sunday at the University of Texas on charges involving marijuana and weapons, per reports.

Officers reportedly discovered marijuana and a firearm when responding to a call that said the smell of marijuana was coming from cars parked outside a Texas dormitory. Officers at the scene discovered marijuana in all three vehicles and a firearm in one vehicle.

The former Longhorn star was arrested for marijuana possession of two ounces or less and unlawful carrying of a weapon. Police said Foreman was identified as the owner of the gun, and booked into Travis County Jail.

A third-round pick by the Texans, Foreman is expected to compete for a backup role behind veteran Lamar Miller. "We are gathering additional information and will have no further comment". There were also six other men cited for possession, but they were released.

Foreman's attorney, Chip Lewis, released a statement on his client's behalf.

Foreman, an All-American at Texas, was arrested by university police at 3 a.m. Sunday morning, and released on bond around noon. He had traveled to Austin to visit friends. This legal handgun was recently purchased by D'onta and registered to his name.

Foreman's attorney says Foreman didn't use or possess marijuana in the incident.

Foreman won the Doak Walker award for the nation's best running back past year.

It's unclear how the Texans or National Football League will view all of this. The handgun was properly secured inside his vehicle as required by Texas law.
