According to a video uploaded on Facebook, Ranatunga said that he would reveal the truth at an appropriate time.

India defeated Sri Lanka by six wickets with 10 balls remaining to complete a truly historic victory over Sri Lanka. Gautam Gambhir felt that Ranatunga should back his allegations with evidence. "When we lost, I was distressed and I had a doubt". But I think we should also inquire what happened to the Sri Lanka Team during the 2011 World Cup final.

It is pertinent here to mention that Arjuna Ranatunga on Friday demanded an investigation into the country's 2011 World Cup final defeat by India amid allegations of match fixing. "I think this is something that the Sports Minister should look into rather than concentrating on fitness issues", Ranatunga said as reported by Sri Lanka's Daily Mirror. I can not reveal what happened on that day, but I would someday reveal the truth with proof. These are serious comments by a very respectable voice in worldwide cricket. There is no end to these kinds of statements. His most memorable achievement was leading a team of relative unknowns to World Cup glory in 1996. So let's not get into it.

After Ranatunga stoked up a controversy, the players from the India cricket team, who were a part of that win in the 2011 World Cup final, were asked about their opinions, and the likes of Gautam Gambhir and Ashish Nehra were pretty emphatic in their replies.

Another India cricketer Harbhajan Singh refused to give his remarks on the matter saying such allegations by Ranatunga have surfaced earlier as well.

Ranatunga, who was on commentary duty during the World Cup final which was hosted in Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium, has taken the war of words with Sangakkara to a different level. On various forums, he has expressed his surprise as to how multiple Sri Lanka players got injured and pulled out of the final.
