After setting the pace in practice for the British Grand Prix, Valtteri Bottas' bid for a second successive victory was hit by a five-place penalty on the grid for the Formula One race.

Hamilton led from start to finish and avoided the carnage that unfolded behind him, but Ricciardo says his rollercoaster of a day was just his way of ensuring the British fans didn't forget about him.

Mercedes chief Toto Wolff says it is a "no brainer" to extend Valtteri Bottas' contract beyond the 2017 season. I'm coming over to crowd-surf, just so you know.

"I'm still enjoying it and I still have a contract with the team for at least a year so I plan to see that out at the moment", he added. He then nursed it though one of those tedious safety vehicle interludes after the Toro Rosso duo Carlos Sainz and Daniil Kvyat had collided on the first lap, then simply picked up where he had left off and controlled the race until the end. The headline was Vandoorne out qualifying Fernando Alonso for the first time with a strong lap that saw him reach Q3, edging out Jolyon Palmer at the Briton's home race by just 0.088s.

It was the 57th career win for the 32-year-old Hamilton, who had started the weekend 20 points adrift of his arch-rival Vettel after a disappointing fourth place in the Austrian GP won by the improving Bottas.

The first lap drama was between the two Toro Rosso's of Carlos Sainz and Daniil Kyvat which we have seen a several times this season. Max Verstappen hasn't been taught about respecting his elders, and he was having nothing of it when Vettel come up alongside his Red Bull going into Stowe corner on the 13 lap.

China's trade with North Korea rises 10%
Gasoline and diesel prices have reportedly jumped in North Korea, after its largest crude supplier China halted fuel sales. Greitens says that's not a good trade for the U.S.to make.

By running a whopping 32 laps, Bottas overtook the Ferraris during their own tyre stops, then came back at them when they were running soft tyres and he was on the faster supersofts. The order remained as is until pit-stops began to start.

"But I think with a lot of work, a lot of analysis, we've really started to move forwards, particularly the last two races, if not three, we've started off immediately on the right foot, which is great".

"Personally, I don't take too much from Seb's incident, just from our ideal weekend". "I am happy to finish the race and get some solid points once again".

"Even without that (veering off the track), sure, I would have finished a long way up in terms of race time but I wouldn't have got close to the other guys (who finished on the podium)". It was clear that we were faster and we obviously got him in the pitstops.

"I feel unbelievable, especially with a great crowd like this all around the track", he said immediately afterwards.
