Major publishers are vying for the rights to a memoir by James Comey, in which the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director will outline his views on leadership and describe, among other things, his brief and controversial tenure in the Trump administration.

"It's a book about leadership and his search for truth, informed by lessons and experiences he's had throughout his career, including his recent experiences in the Trump administration", Javelin partner Matt Latimer told the Times.

The book deal, signed with NY publisher Javelin, will reportedly delve into the principles that shaped his career.

Both Latimer, and his Javelin associate Keith Urbahn, are veterans of GOP administrations and members of Congress, with Latimer serving as President George W. Bush's deputy director of speechwriting and as the chief speechwriter to former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

The book is expected to go to auction this week and all major publishing houses have expressed keen interest, said Mr Latimer. Also the investigation into Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server while Secretary of State, and his inquiry into Russia's meddling in the USA election.

"It will speak to a broader desire in our country for more ethical leadership".

Mr Comey has been unexpectedly thrust into the spotlight. When he was sacked, Mr. Comey was four years into a 10-year term. He didn't go quietly. He has released details of memos in which he alleges that Trump pressurized him to drop an investigation into General Michael Flynn, a former Trump national security advisor accused of collusion with Russian Federation.

Nearly immediately after his firing, agents and publishers pounced, setting off speculation that Mr. Comey was contemplating writing a book.

"I$3 t depends on the timing and how well crafted the book proposal is, but conceivably Jim Comey could get to an eight-figure advance for his memoir". But it may still contain some previously unrevealed details about his dealings with Mr Trump.

A movie-TV agent also told the publication that he knows of a "top-drawer producer who's already talking to stars to cast the Comey role".
